What are the deadlines to apply for the Online Professional Master's in Human Resource Management?
The deadline for Summer 2024 applicants is May 5th.
The deadline for Fall applicants is August 20th.
The deadline for Spring applicants is December 1st.
When does the program start?
Applicants can start their degree during the Fall, Spring, or Summer semesters.
The Summer 2021 semester starts on June 1, 2021.
The Fall 2022 semester starts on September 6, 2022.
The Spring 2023 semester starts on January 17, 2023.
The Summer 2023 semester starts on May 30, 2023.
How do I apply for the program?
Applications to the program are submitted through the Rutgers Graduate and Professional Admissions online application system. You can apply online at the following link. The first step in the application process is creating an account by choosing a login ID and PIN. Once you begin an application for admission, you may save your progress and return to the application later to complete it. If you experience difficulty with the online application and need an alternative method, please contact us.
How long does it take to complete the online master's program?
The program is designed to offer flexibility in completion, finishing in as early as 18 months full-time or up to 5 years part-time, depending on the course load that you decide to take. Taking a minimum of at least one course is recommended per semester, although breaks from matriculation are allowed. To register for more than three courses during any given semester, prior approval from the program director is required.
Is the program fully online or will I need to come for campus visits?
Yes, the program is fully online and is arranged to cater to working professionals and offer flexibility to maintain work/life balance. You can work full-time while enrolled in the program, and there is no need for relocation or campus visits.
When will I know if I have been accepted into the online master's program?
Applications to the program are evaluated as they are received and admissions decisions are made on a rolling basis. The admission committee highly recommends that you apply ahead of application deadlines to ensure consideration. Most decisions will occur on a rolling basis but no decision on your application will occur later than 2-3 weeks prior to the start of the program.
What undergraduate grade point average (GPA) is needed for admission?
A 3.0 undergraduate grade point average is required. However, the admission committee considers a combination of other factors including years and quality of work experience, letters of recommendation, professional skill sets, and statement of purpose. Some of these other aspects may compensate, at the discretion of the admissions committee, for a GPA not meeting the requirement.
What are the costs of tuition and fees?
The tuition rate is $1,230 per credit or $3,690 per 3-credit course. The tuition rate is the same for in-state, out-of-state, and international students. University off-campus fees apply and depend on the number of credits taken. Click here to view the current fees for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Am I required to take the GRE or GMAT?
Applicants are waived from the GRE or GMAT. It is expected that all applicants have 4+ years human resources and/or managerial experience.
Am I required to take the TOEFL or IELTS?
International students are required to submit TOEFL or IELTS scores to demonstrate their level of English proficiency so they can be successful in the program. Test scores older than 5 years will not be accepted. If you took the TOEFL or IELTS more than 5 years ago, you will need to retake the test. Be sure to send your test scores to Rutgers University (The ETS code for Rutgers is 2790).
What type of prior work experience is required to join the program?
This program is designed for applicants having 4+ years of human resources or organizational management experience.
What information should I include on my resume?
A two-page resume should include your qualifications, skills, work experience, credentials and achievements, as well as other details that highlight your strengths as a candidate. Most importantly, you need to demonstrate a minimum of 4+ years of experience in human resources, management, or a combination of both.
What should I include in my statement of purpose?
Your personal statement, not to exceed two single-spaced pages, should state why you are interested in our program and how it will help you advance your career and achieve your professional goals. Speak to why you believe you are a strong candidate to join our program, and include your qualifications, competencies, personal attributes, experience, etc.
What transcripts do I need to submit as part of my application for admission to the program?
All applicants need to submit transcripts from all colleges and universities that they have attended. Proof of attaining a bachelor’s degree is a program requirement.
Who can write my letters of recommendation?
Accepted recommenders include previous professors, current or previous managers/supervisors, and work colleagues.
Does the program accept international students?
International students are highly encouraged to apply. The admission process is the same for all students. International students need to meet all program requirements and demonstrate English proficiency by submitting TOEFL or IELTS scores.
