Across the country, college math departments are creating partnerships with employers and industry to ensure that they are preparing students with the knowledge and skills needed to be successful in the 21st-century workplace.

This is just one of many strategies math departments are employing to help students learn about career pathways in math and ensure that math majors are career-ready. This study surveyed 219 two- and four-year colleges and organizations in 37 states to identify career- readiness practices that could be promoted and implemented across the nation.

The best practices included: career preparation, curriculum revision, strong advising strategies, partnerships with industry, internship and work experience, and alumni networking events. The project also offered regional analyses on mathematics trends for bachelor’s and master’s graduates, including degrees awarded, demographics, changes over time in math courses, and career fields for math majors.
