This project will examine the critical choice points in the educational and career trajectories for students in the biosciences and engineering. Researchers from Rutgers, the University of Michigan, and the University of California San Diego will examine the pathways of biosciences and engineering graduates into the workforce.

A key component of the study will be the role of the research experience in developing scientists and engineers at the baccalaureate and master’s levels. The project will also examine the demand side of the field by looking at how companies structure bioscience and engineering jobs and how that affects students’ career choices.

Funded by the National Science Foundation, the study will contribute to creating a model and assessment of key high impact events in STEM workforce development.
