Alternatives to Mathematics Education: An Unprecedented Program (AMP-UP) Evaluation

EERC is conducting a study of AMP-Up for U.S.  Department of Education First in the World grant program at both Bergen Community College (BCC) and Union County College (UCC) – collectively known as Alternatives to Mathematics Education: An Unprecedented Program (AMP-UP).   AMP-UP seeks to rethink the delivery of developmental education in mathematics.

BCC’s intervention focuses on accelerating students through the developmental mathematics pathway, making it possible to complete developmental and college-level math within students’ first semester. UCC’s intervention allows students assessed as needing developmental mathematics to proceed directly into college-level math with additional tutoring support. EERC is conducting a random assignment study of the AMP-UP intervention designed to meet What Works Clearinghouse Standards without reservation, as well as an implementation analysis of the program reforms.
