Employment Law Course

Instructor: Attorney William Schimmel, with the firm of Weissman & Mintz, LLC.

This course will provide students the understanding of laws that protect workers and their working conditions;
employment and working conditions and how these laws are enforced by government agencies.

Workplace Health and Safety
Dates: Tuesdays, February 2, 2021 - March 9, 2021
Time: 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm
Instructor: Cecelia Gilligan-Leto, NJ Work Environment Council

 This workshop will introduce participants to multiple strategies that can be used to identify and prevent hazards in their workplace settings. The workshop will introduce the "system of safety" approach to accident investigation and address workplace hazards such as hazardous chemicals and workplace violence, while utilizing tools such as hazard mapping and establishing effective safety committees to improve health and safety programs. This class will also cover very timely issues related to COVID-19.

Communication and Media Skills
Dates: Tuesdays, March 16, 2021 - April 20, 2021
Time: 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm
Instructor: Todd Vachon, Faculty Coordinator, LEARN Program

This workshop will cover all of the major areas of communication and media skills that union leaders need to effectively get their message out. From traditional media like print news, television, and radio, to social media platforms and webinars, this course will enhance your communication skills across
all media formats. Students will also work on drafting and revising an op-ed piece on an issue that is important to them or their local.
