RU Ready? How to Prepare for a Virtual Interview
Wed., 11/3/2021 - 7:30pm - 8:30pm

The School of Management and Labor Relations Alumni Association (SMLRAA) hosted a virtual interviewing Q&A session on November 3 followed by mock interview workshops.

Samantha Castro (GMLR) lead an engaging Q&A session with Eugene Gentile (RBS, RGSE), who provided many insights about virtual interviewing as well as interviewing in general. He advised to treat virtual interviewing as traditional interviewing – continue dressing formally, prepare intensively, and practice interviewing. Two particularly insightful recommendations focused on practicing “SARB” (Situation, Action, Result, Benefit), and asking hiring managers, “What would you expect me to complete in 30, 60 and 90 days from my hire date?”

After the Q&A session, Tracy Ng (SMLR), Catherine Mobilian (GMLR), and Samantha Castro (GMLR) hosted the breakout room discussions on various interview questions one might expect, such as “Tell me about yourself.” Attendees shared how they approach these types of questions, as well as more effective ways to answer them.

The event ended with raffle prizes won by Michael Bartolomei (GMLR) and Mindy Doherty (GMLR). Congratulations!

We thank Eugene Gentile (RBS, RBSE) for his insightful advice and Samantha Castro (GMLR) for leading an engaging Q&A session with Eugene. We also thank the breakout room hosts, as well as the attendees for making the event more worthwhile for all.
