July 10-14, 2023: "46th UALE NE Summer School for Women in Unions and Worker Organizations"

Save the Date for the 46th UALE Summer School of Women in Unions and Worker Organizations! This year’s school will be hosted by the School of Management and Labor Relations at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ from July 10-14, 2023. The Forty-sixth UALE Northeast Summer School for Union Women is a four-day residential program. The school brings together rank-and-file members, staff, and officers of unions and workers’ rights organizations to strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the U.S. labor movement. UALE advocates education as an essential tool to develop new activists and leaders who will grow and transform the labor movement. We use an inclusive definition of “woman” and “female” which includes trans women, genderqueer women, and non-binary people.

April 24, 2020: "The Future Is Now: Labor-Management Collaborations and Innovations for the 21st Century."

Join leading employers and employment professionals in far-reaching discussions about innovative collaborations and initiatives that companies and employee organizations are developing and deploying to navigate the shifting currents of our rapidly evolving new economy. Postponed (TBD) due to the Covid-19 Pandemic.

May 2-3, 2019: Second National Summit for Civil Rights

Presented in partnership with The Institute on Metropolitan Opportunity, The Coalition of Black Trade Unionists (CBTU) and Building One America, with support from the Ford Foundation, the United Auto Workers Union and SMLR. Speakers included a number of national figures, among them Representative Jim Clyburn (D-SC), Clayola Brown (APRI), Keith Ellison (DNC), Sherrilyn Ifill (NAACP Legal Defense Fund), Derrick Johnson (NAACP), Kahlil Muhammed (Harvard), Betsy Pringle (NEA) and William Spriggs (AFL-CIO). Attended by 125 people from across the US.

November 18-19, 2018: Northeast Regional Labor Convergence on Climate Change

Presented in partnership with the Labor Network for Sustainability. The convergence brought together over 90 labor leaders and allies from eight states across the northeast to discuss labor’s role in the urgently needed transition to a just and sustainable economy that both protects the climate as well as the lives and livelihoods of workers and frontline communities that are threatened by climate catastrophe. Co-sponsored by the Labor Education Action Research Network and the Rutgers AAUP-AFT, the day-long intensive strategy session was convened at the Labor Education Center at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Attendees included nurses, carpenters, electrical workers, teachers, communication workers, transportation workers, postal workers, food service workers, public employees, and service industry workers from over 20 different unions.
