The SMLR Alumni Association hosted an "HR & LR Networking Event" on March 30, 2023 at the Janice H. Levin Building on the Rutgers Livingston Campus. We had a great turnout of approximately 30 SMLR alumni, staff, students, and friends of SMLR. The event started with open networking and dinner. Tracy Ng, SMLRAA President, then welcomed everyone formally with a quick presentation on "Who is SMLRAA?" and introduced our two guest speakers: Paris Wright, SMLR's Associate Director of Development, and Rebecca Greenbaum, SMLR Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and Professor of Human Resource Management.
Paris thanked everyone for attending and looked forward to connecting with everyone at the event and collaborating with our SMLR alumni going forward. She welcomed attendees to reach out to her to discuss ways to give back to SMLR.
Associate Dean Greenbaum also thanked everyone and noted that this was one of the larger networking events SMLRAA hosted since March 2020. She described how SMLR, like SMLRAA, has adapted to the changing world as a result of COVID by offering various virtual learning opportunities and events. She also mentioned that many of the school's faculty have been working toward achieving digital badges in inclusive teaching through Rutgers. The school is exploring offering different types of digital badges and microcredentials, which have emerged as popular learning opportunities, and is in the process of developing content for some program offerings. SMLR has also been investigating ways to offer study abroad opportunities for students.
After Paris and Associate Dean Greenbaum gave their updates, Samantha Castro, SMLRAA VP of Events & Programs and Communications Chair, introduced the speed networking portion. There were five rounds of five minutes of speed networking. Attendees were all busy chatting and having a great time networking. Attendees discussed their work background and education with many of the participants forming new LinkedIn connections.
SMLRAA thanks all of our attendees for their enthusiasm and engagement. SMLRAA also thanks Paris Wright and SMLR Associate Dean Rebecca Greebaum for their informative updates. Many thanks also to Steve Hockstein from Harvard Studio Photography for photographing our event & for the professional headshots for our early registrants! Finally, SMLRAA thanks its volunteers – Catherine Mobilian, Steven Ng, Ivonne Medrano, Adama Toure, Mauni Patel, Sangeetha Subramanian, and Nicole Skrable – for executing this event!
