Innovative new healthcare programs at the Rutgers School of Management and Labor Relations (SMLR) are attracting news coverage across New Jersey – and beyond.
The New Jersey Healthcare Talent Development Center, based at SMLR, recently unveiled new apprenticeship opportunities for at-risk youth, domestic violence victims, military veterans, people with disabilities, and people living in transitional housing after incarceration. Supported by close to $1 million in federal and state grants, the earn-while-you-learn programs will create non-traditional career pathways in the healthcare industry.
NJTV, New Jersey’s PBS station, and WMBC-TV attended the announcement of the new programs on November 15 and filed stories in that evening’s newscasts. The NJTV story appears on the PBS website, broadening its reach to a national audience. The first-of-its-kind Certified Health Care Manager™(CHM) program, a collaboration between SMLR Executive and Professional Education and the Rutgers School of Health Professions, drew the interest of several news organizations throughout October and November. Launching in February 2017, the three-semester program will help aspiring and established mid-level managers keep pace with changing federal regulations.
