Matt Goldfine is the Managing Director at the workplace justice lab@RU. In this role, he provides leadership, direction, and coordination for the center, leading strategic development, growth, and planning. He also works to coordinate strategic communication, budget management, fundraising, training, and staff team building and management.
Matt has spent his career cultivating leadership, managing campaigns, and advocating for progressive policy. He has extensive experience building and maintaining diverse coalitions across governments, non-profits, labor, businesses, and academia. He has trained, recruited, and advised hundreds of political candidates and elected officials.

Prior to joining WJL@RU, his consulting firm Systemic Public Affairs directed projects to increase public benefit attainment in low income communities, managed political campaigns, and led GOTV efforts for a coalition of elected officials in Philadelphia. Matt served as the founding Executive Director of LEAD PA and LEAD PA Institute, cultivating a new generation of progressive leaders across Pennsylvania. He and the LEAD team built training programs for potential candidates for public office, candidate and issue advocacy campaign staff, local leadership scouts, and prepared Black and Brown staffers for executive roles to address systemic underrepresentation in advocacy organizations. Prior to LEAD PA, Matt served as the Director of Government Relations and Public Grants at the University City Science Center, where he raised funding from all levels of government, managed lobbying and policy engagement efforts to support academic research and technology commercialization, and led the effort to develop the organization's first workforce development program.

Matt first worked right out of college as an activist and organizer, and then on local candidate campaigns. After serving as Chief of Staff to a member of the PA House of Representatives, he then moved on to state politics where he managed the campaign to elect PA’s first openly LGBTQ+ legislator and as the Political Director of the PA House Democratic Campaign Committee, he recruited the first majority female slate of challengers. Matt holds a BA in Geography and Urban Studies from Temple University.
