Are corporate skiing getaways really such a great way to break the ice?

The Times

Would you go on holiday with your colleagues?

The law firm Slaughter and May has banned subsidised staff ski trips amid concerns that they could lead to sexual harassment claims, it was reported this week.

The firm launched a review after allegations that a male lawyer harassed a female lawyer on such a trip last year. The man left the firm in the summer.

My first thought here is that putting the kibosh on corporate ski trips probably is a good idea. Personally, I love skiing. But in the UK it has all sorts of connotations, like “posh”, “public school” and “Range Rover with massive plastic UFO-thing on the roof”. Staff ski trips feel rather profligate and elitist. I daresay this is not the case
