The Department of Women’s and Gender Studies and the Center for Women and Work present a discussion with Professors Yana van der Meulen Rodgers, Meredeth Turshen, and Marci Berger on the "Global Gag Rule."
Professor Yana Rodgers discusses her new book, The Global Gag Rule and Women’s Reproductive Health: Rhetoric Versus Reality. A hallmark of the Reagan, Bush, and Trump administrations, the “Global Gag Rule” cuts off foreign aid to health care providers that offer or even discuss abortions. In her new book, Rodgers finds the policy has the opposite of its intended effect, leading to more abortions in some countries. She lays out a better approach to integrated reproductive health services.
