The Education and Employment Research Center (EERC) is conducting an evaluation of the National Council for Workforce Education’s (NCWE) New Workforce Professionals Academy (Academy) funded by the ECMC Foundation. Given the broad national trend of retirements in senior leadership positions in community colleges, NCWE has sought ways to support the development of the new generation of leaders for community college workforce education. The Academy is designed to develop the skills and expand the knowledge of workforce education professionals who are new to the field. Through a series of professional development activities, peer-learning, networking, mentoring, and interaction with workforce practitioners, the Academy seeks to increase participants’ knowledge base and leadership skills helping them to achieve success in workforce education.
Given that the program is in its early stages of development, the evaluation focuses on gathering information and providing feedback throughout the course of the project to help guide on-going improvements. EERC is creating and fielding on-line surveys for participants at several crucial points in their participation in the Academy. EERC is also surveying mentors at the start and the end of the program. The two-year evaluation includes both formative and summative components.
