Samantha (Sam) Castro, BA HRM '19

Hi all! My name is Samantha (Sam) Castro (she/her/hers), and I am a 2019 undergrad graduate of SMLR. I am currently a Human Resources Administrator at Guest Worldwide, a Sysco company where I am involved with almost every function in the employee experience from recruiting to separation.

I have been involved with the SMLRAA since late 2020 when I saw a LinkedIn post recruiting members to be part of one of the 3 committees available. I have since been involved with both the communications and events planning committees. In the communications committee, I’ve collaborated with the team on creating a survey for current alumni to fill out on communication preferences for the future, and I have promoted any events we host. In the events committee, I’ve helped the team coordinate the Holiday Happy Hour, Speed Networking, and now the Work-Life Balance panel. In addition, I’ve helped to create Zoom backgrounds/flyers for each of the events. 

It’s been such a pleasure working with each of these committees, and I’d love to continue my support for the SMLRAA by running for several positions (Vice President, Vice President of Program & Events, and Communications Chair). Besides my current involvement in SMLRAA, I am currently an admin for an online 20s committee, helping to manage their FB, IG, and LinkedIn page in addition to event planning fun networking events for 20 year olds. In college, I was heavily involved in event planning for my fraternity and marketing any fundraisers we had. I am running because I feel as though with my experience, I have the knowledge to help lead any of these groups to success towards our 2022/2023 goals! Thank you all for your support.

Melissa J. Daniel, DC '00, SMLR '01

Melissa J. Daniel, DC ’00, SMLR ’01, is a labor arbitrator and mediator, practicing in New York and New Jersey. Melissa lives in East Brunswick, New Jersey with her husband, Charlie. She is the Chair of the School of Management and Labor Relations Alumni Association (SMLRAA), a Past President of the Rutgers Alumni Association (RAA) and a past president of the NJ Labor Employment Relations Association (NJLERA).  
 
Melissa and Charlie believe it is important to give back and pay-it-forward where possible. Melissa and Charlie have been donors to Rutgers for a number of years and to the School of Management and Labor Relations since Melissa’s graduation. They have committed to help fund an endowed scholarship for SMLR over the next several years.   
 
Melissa was awarded the Rutgers Alumni Association’s Loyal Daughter of Rutgers Award.  This award is given to honor an individual for their leadership service to their Alma Mater.  Melissa has also been awarded the RAA Class of 1939 award for volunteer services to Rutgers as well as the RAA Trustee Award for an outstanding record of service to Alma Mater.  Melissa and Charlie have been recognized by the Dean of SMLR for their compassionate commitment to the students and academic programs of SMLR. 
 
Melissa served on the Board of Advisors of The Princeton Committee on Foreign Relations.  Melissa is entering her 21st year actively advising and fundraising for two local Celiac Sprue Support Groups. Melissa is an Elder at her Church and has held leadership roles, i.e., chair of Interpretation and Stewardship, co-chair of Membership, voting member of the Finance Committee, and was vice president of the Church corporation.   
 
Melissa and Charlie enjoy traveling and have visited over 75 countries including all 7 continents. They hope to continue their travels once the pandemic is under control.

Sam Kelly, BA HRM '17, MHRM '18

Sam Kelly graduated from SMLR with her BA in Human Resource Management (HRM) in 2017 and her MA in HRM in 2018. While at RU, she served as the VP of the Undergraduate Society of HRM. She is currently an HR Business Partner at Innophos, a global phosphates company in Cranbury, NJ. She focuses on improving the Talent Acquisition process and strategically implementing new processes, as well as employee relation issues and investigations. 

Since 2020, she has served on the Alumni Recognition and Virtual Event Planning committees for SMLRAA and would love to get more involved by taking over the Secretary/Treasurer position on the board! She loves giving back to the SMLR community, which provided her so much during her time at RU and beyond!

Tracy Ng, BA HRM '15

Tracy Ng is a proud SMLR, SAS, and DRC alumni, who graduated with a BA in Human Resources Management, Psychology & Sociology. She started her human resources management career in pension administration, and later transitioned to compensation. Currently, she is a compensation analyst at OSG Billing Services. 

Tracy is SMLRAA’s Vice President of Events & Programs since 2018, where she leads the Events Project Team, as well as lead & plan various in person & virtual events. She volunteered with SMLRAA since 2016, starting as a general member, coordinating & advertising events. She’s excited to run for President of SMLRAA and to continue working with an incredible team & alumni community. Tracy has the passion, experience & enthusiasm to bring SMLRAA to the next level, such as engaging more alumni in various events.

Jordan Schoen, BA '15, MHRM '18

Jordan Schoen graduated from SAS with her B.A in 2015 and from SMLR with her MHRM in 2018. Fast forward a couple of years, she joined the executive committee of the SMLR Alumni Association as Secretary & Treasurer. She is looking forward to running for the Communications Chair role. She enjoys connecting with alumni, family & friends and particularly likes working as a team.

Her remote HR role is supporting a talent acquisition and planning team in the real estate industry. She is a positive thinker, creative go-getter and kind at heart. In her free time, you can find her with her family, furry friends, crafting or picking seashells at the beach! Go RU!
