NJ Senator Robert Menendez Attends Dedication of Plaque to SMLR

On September 14, New Jersey Senator Robert Menendez made a special appearance at SMLR’s Labor Education Center (LEC).

He joined Charles Wowkanech and Laurel Brennan,president and secretary-treasurer, respectively, of the New Jersey State American Federation of Labor and the Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) to present SMLR with a commemorative plaque. The plaque was given to SMLR in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the AFL-CIO’s merger and will reside at the LEC.

Professor Adrienne Eaton, chair of the department of labor studies and employment relations, accepted the plaque on behalf of the school and noted that the history of labor programs and SMLR's LEC is entwined with the AFL-CIO.

Members of several union organizations were in attendance, including representatives from the Sheet Metal Workers, who created the plaque, Building and Construction Trades, and International Federation of Professional & Technical Engineers (IFPTE).
