    More than 100 students gathered in the Livingston Student Center on October 12, 2012 to attend Rutgers School of Management and Labor Relations’ fall Human Resource Management (HRM) Career Fair. Dressed in professional attire and with résumés in hand, HRM students were invited to meet with recruiters from more than 30 leading companies.

    On October 17, the Center for Women and Work (CWW) held a welcome reception for the center’s new director, Professor Dana Britton. More than 60 people attended the event, including faculty and staff from SMLR, the Institute for Women’s Leadership, and current and former CWW staff member.

    Barry Qualls, Rutgers’ award-winning English professor and vice president of undergraduate education, was the guest speaker during SMLR’s Leadership in Work Organizations class. Professor Qualls shared the leadership skills he discovered though his experiences.

    New Jersey Governor Chris Christie recently wrote a letter to Rutgers Society for Human Resource Management (RU SHRM), congratulating the group on its Outstanding Student Chapter Award. In his letter, Governor Christie writes, "I join with your families, friends, and professors in applauding all of you on a job well done."

Schurman and Professor Rebecca Givan, instructors of SMLR's Leadership in Work Organizations course, invited Actor Richard Masur to attend the class as a guest speaker. Masur is a member of the executive committee of the New York SAG-AFTRA Local and has a role in the new HBO hit, Girls.

    On September 14, New Jersey Senator Robert Menendez made a special appearance at SMLR’s Labor Education Center (LEC). He joined Charles Wowkanech and Laurel Brennan from the New Jersey State American Federation of Labor and the Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) to present SMLR with a commemorative plaque.

    From an overview of concentrations within labor studies to an introduction to library resources, new students within SMLR’s Master of Labor and Employment Relations Program received a full overview of the school’s program during orientation on September 5.

    On August 23, Rutgers School of Management and Labor Relations welcomed 106 new students into the internationally renowned master of human resource management (MHRM) program. Students were introduced to SMLR Dean Susan J. Schurman, MHRM Program Director and Professor Dave Ferio, academic and career service professionals, and several HR faculty members.
