Student Requirements For An Online Degree Program

Successful Online Students

Requirements for a major in LER are identical for both the online and in-person versions. Online learners will not be segregated into a separate cohort. Typical online learners:

  • Are self-directed, self-motivated, and organized in their approach to studying.
  • Utilize effective time management practices
  • Exhibit quality English language skills and are confident in communicating through the written word
  • Are comfortable when using a computer and the internet and competent in completing basic word processing and online communication tasks
  • Have regular access to a computer throughout the semester
  • Have taken a course prior to signing up for a full load of coursework

In order to complete the degree exclusively online, you must complete Rutgers University's School of Management and Labor Relations' general education requirements first--including a course in statistics or research methods. An associate's degree will typically suffice, but consult Dean Betsy Feliciano Berrios for a pre-admission analysis. Online learners will have the ability to “mix and match” or switch online courses for traditional classes at any time.

Laurent Mevs is an IT Manager for a global pharmaceutical company located in Northern New Jersey. The LER online program is helping him in his pursuit of an undergraduate degree.

"In my line of work I do a whole lot of traveling, and I feel that the LER program gives me the flexibility to make my own schedule. The support provided by the LER staff has made studying from hotel rooms and from my dining room table feel as extensions of the University."  ~ Laurent Mevs
