Professor Rebecca Kolins Givan is an associate professor in the Department of Labor Studies and Employment Relations.

Professor Givan received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Oberlin College and her doctorate in political science from Northwestern University. She has held academic positions at the London School of Economics and Cardiff Business School.

For the last several years, she has worked at Cornell University's School of Industrial and Labor Relations. She is also a visiting professor at the labor center of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

Professor Givan's teaching and writing interests span both U.S. and comparative labor relations. Her two main research areas are health care work and the public sector. She has published widely on both these topics. She is currently completing a book comparing the implementation of change in hospitals in the United Kingdom and the United States.

She was recently awarded the Dunlop Scholar Award from the Labor and Employment Relations Association for the best contribution to international and/or comparative labor and employment research by an emerging scholar.

"I am thrilled to join such an engaged and diverse community of scholars and students. The opportunity to teach Rutgers students from the introductory to the graduate level is very exciting. I love wrestling with the important issues that students have faced or will face in the workplace, and I try to make my classrooms a lively setting for grappling with real world problems," says Professor Givan.
