Graduates From LEARN's Programs Celebrate In Joint Ceremony

On May 11, 2012, students from the Union Leadership Academy (ULA), Employment Law for Union Representatives, and NJ Public Sector Labor Relations programs graduated during

a joint ceremony held at the Labor Education Center. Professor Tracy Chang, director of LEARN, and Professor Adrienne Eaton, chair of the Department of Labor Studies

and Employment Relations, proudly distributed certificates of completion to the graduates.

“I am happy to have another great group of graduates. They worked really hard, and I hope they can take away skills to help them better lead their organizations,” said Professor Chang.

“You never stop learning when dealing with unions. It’s a 24/7 job. All the information you can get, the better, and I learned a lot from this program,” said Kathleen Mary Henderson, AFT Local 6024, who graduated from the Employment Law for Union Representatives Certificate program.

The Union Leadership Academy (ULA), Employment Law for Union Representatives, and NJ Public Sector Labor Relations programs are each offered through Labor Education and Research Now (LEARN). As a division of Rutgers’ Department ofLabor Studies and Employment Relations, LEARN offers a wide range of noncredit and continuing education training programs for workers, labor unions and related organizations. LEARN students are emerging rank-and-file leaders across the state of New Jersey who want to enhance their personal knowledge and workplace skills and build a stronger union. The men and women enrolled in LEARN programs are as diverse as the industries in which they work, including: building trades, education, safety, customer service, telecommunications, health care, and government.
