Rutgers Nontraditional Students Find Work-life Balance on Campus

College students are often stereotyped as budding youths — inexperienced, impressionable and a little naïve. But not all undergraduates at Rutgers are students in the traditional sense.

Susan Schurman, dean of UCC and the School of Labor and Management Studies, said 60 percent of high school graduates begin their undergraduate degree, but only about a third of them actually finish in the traditional four-to-six year time frame.

RU SHRM Holds Its Final General Members Meeting

On April 25, 2014, Rutgers Society for Human Resource Management (RU SHRM) held its final general members meeting at the Livingston Student Center. Bob Calamai, a MHRM instructor, HR consultant and former HR Executive at IBM, spoke with students about ways to succeed as a new summer intern or when entering a new job. His insights were exceptionally well-received and a tribute to his knowledge and skilled work as an HR leader.

Global Executive Master's in Human Resource Leadership (GEMHRL) Graduates Honored

On April 25, 2014, recent graduates of the Global Executive Master's in Human Resource Leadership (GEMHRL) program were honored at the Affinia Hotel in New York City. During the event, Professor Richard W. "Dick" Beatty, world-renowned HR expert and GEMHRL's executive director, discussed the opportunities for students that are available through an endowed fund, named in his honor.

Swedish Delegates Participate In New, Leadership Program

On April 3, 2014, twenty senior labor leaders from the Swedish Trade Union Confederation, LO, participated in a new program, Globalization and Organizing, offered by the Labor Studies and Employment Relations (LSER) faculty. The program is part of a three-week, leadership development series offered by SMLR, the University of Uppsala, and the University of Stockholm.
