Bergen County Community College (BCC) and Union County College (UCC) launched a study aimed at rethinking the delivery of developmental education in mathematics.

The intervention at BCC focused on accelerating students through the developmental mathematics pathway, making it possible to complete developmental and college-level math within the students’ first semester.

The strategy at UCC allowed students assessed at needing developmental mathematics to proceed directly into college-level math with additional tutoring support.

The Rutgers Education & Employment Research Center (EERC) conducted a random assignment study of the Alternatives to Mathematics Education: An Unprecedented Program as well as an implementation analysis of the program reforms.
