Profile: Rosa Schmidt


Rosa Schmidt is founder and president of Rosa Schmidt Consulting, a human resources consulting company. Prior to starting her own consulting firm, Rosa worked for a Fortune 400 energy company for over 20 years where she held various positions in human resources, and was responsible for developing strategic initiatives in the area of workforce planning, employee engagement and leadership development. She led the design and implementation of an employee engagement survey for an organization of 10,000 employees, which included a union environment.

She was the founder and chair of the first New Jersey Energy Workforce Consortia which brought together leaders from industry, government, education and labor. In addition, she directed the company’s development and implementation of a leading edge workforce development initiative, The PSEG Energy Utility Technology Degree Program. This program has been recognized as a national model for business and education partnerships in fueling the needs of the energy workforce of today and the future.

Rosa has spent over 20 areas in the human resources arena in various capacities. She has extensive experience directing a nine state implementation of a career pathways initiative focused on workforce planning for the energy industry. Volunteering is one of Rosa’s passions. She is a member of the board of directors of Junior Achievement of New Jersey, as well as a member of the advisory board of St. Vincent’s Academy, a high school located in Newark, New Jersey, and the Salvation Army in New Brunswick, N.J. She volunteers her time weekly at the Children’s Specialized Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey.

Rosa has been honored to receive the Tribute to Women in Industry Award, as well as the Women of Distinction Award, Soroptimist International. Rosa holds a bachelor's degree in business management and a master's degree in human resources/organization development from American University. Rosa has also earned her senior professional in human resources credential and is an instructor for the leadership and management programs at Rutgers Executive and Professional Education.
