Information for Graduates
Advising & Participation in SMLR's Convocation:
Convocation will recognize and honor all SMLR undergraduates and graduates in the current academic year (includes degree completion in October 2016, January 2017, and May 2017). Students who are receiving a Bachelor of Arts in LSER, Bachelor of Science in LER, Bachelor of Arts in HRM, and graduate degrees in MHRM and MLER will be honored.
Undergraduate students who need 12 credits to graduate and are enrolled in the summer 2017 session to complete these credits may walk in the May ceremony. These students' names will be called on stage and included in the event's program, but these names will be marked with an * and footnote, indicating that they will be an October 2017 graduate. In addition, diplomas will reflect the same information. Participation in Convocation and Commencement should not be construed as verification of graduation.
You should also reference Rutgers University's graduation information for all students.

The online diploma deadline for May graduates is April 1, 2017.
*Please use the online diploma application as soon as you know you are graduating.
Note: SMLR Graduates are encouraged to attend University Commencement, which will be held on May 14, 2017 in High Point Solutions Stadium. For more information on University Commencement, visit their website.
RSVP For Convocation (Required)
To help us plan for seating and food, all graduates must complete the Marching Order RSVP form. The deadline for submitting your RSVP form is due by Monday May 1st, 2017.
Note: The photos and quotes selected by students are intended for sharing with the general public. Rutgers School of Management and Labor Relations reserves the right to select students’ messages as we deem appropriate. You acknowledge and accept this agreement by submitting your information through Marching Order. The deadline for submission of personal messages/photos are due May 1st, 2017.
Graduates may pick up announcements for themselves and their guests beginning mid-March 2017 at the department office of your degree program. You will receive an email when they are ready.

Graduate Check-in Time:
Note: There will NOT be a rehearsal for the graduates prior to the ceremony.
In the RAC, HRM students will be sitting on the south side, and LSER/LER students will be sitting on the north side. In other words, when facing the stage, HRM students will be seated on the right, and LSER/LER students will be seated on the left.
|A light reception will be held after the ceremony for graduates and guests in a tent outside the RAC.|
For this ceremony, parking is free and available in the lots surrounding the Louis Brown Athletic Center (RAC). Handicap parking is also available but limited.
Water and Gatorade will be available to purchase at the concession stand inside the RAC.
|No tickets are required for this ceremony. Furthermore, announcements will distributed by your department for you and your guests. The ceremony is approximately under two hours long.|
Guests with special needs will be allowed to sit in Section 105 on the main level overlooking the gym and will be allowed to have just 1 person with them for assistance since space is limited. There will be an elevator for those who require assistance.
Guests with special needs will find parking in the Green lot handicapped spots more favorable and easier access into the RAC.
Please do not leave valuables in the marshaling area during the ceremony. Leave your valuables, coats, pocketbooks, backpacks, etc. with a trusted guest prior to entering the Marshalling area. While we try to assist our graduates, we cannot be responsible for personal items.
Rutgers police and first aid will be present throughout the ceremony. Bag searches will be conducted upon entering the Gym.
Please note that the following will not be allowed into the RAC:
Women may of course bring a handbag which will be checked as well as any other smaller bags that are brought in by security at the front door. Clear plastic bags are okay.

|Flowers may be brought into the gym, but balloons are not allowed in the gym. (They end up on the ceiling.)|
To participate in the ceremony, all graduates must wear regalia (which is cap, gown and hood).
Graduates can purchase regalia from Rutgers University Bookstore (Barnes & Noble) beginning April 3rd, 2017.
The Barnes & Noble Grad Fair will be held on April 12th.

Undergraduate College Honors
Undergraduate students graduating with college honors will be provided a Gold Honors Cord prior to the start of the actual commencement program.
GPA requirements for distinctions:
Note: Distinction of Honors will be listed on your diploma as well as official University transcript once all grades have been calculated appropriately.
The baccalaureate degree is conferred summa cum laude, magna cum laude, and cum laude for students achieving honors in the overall program of study at Rutgers University. These students will have gold cords to adorn their regalia. Undergraduate students of the Labor Studies and Employment Relations program achieving highest honors, high honor and honors in the major have white cords to adorn their regalia. The master’s degree students achieving an overall GPA of 4.000 have gold cords to adorn their regalia.

How to Wear
Two photos will be taken:
*A traditional class photo will not be taken. However, the photographer will provide alternative class photos.
Lors Photography specializes in school photography and is being contracted by the Office of Student Engagement for seniors who wish to purchase formal senior portraits. Letters to seniors have already been sent. If you have not received, or misplaced your letter from Lors Photography, you can click this link:
