Governor Christie Congratulates RU SHRM

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie recently wrote a letter to Rutgers Society for Human Resource Management (RU SHRM), congratulating the group on its Outstanding Student Chapter Award. In his letter, Governor Christie writes, "I join with your families, friends, and professors in applauding all of you on a job well done."

Rutgers Center for Management Development Changes Leadership

After helping Rutgers Center for Management Development (CMD) reach numerous milestones, Bill Bigoness has stepped down from his role as the center’s executive director. Bill Castellano, professor in Rutgers School of Management and Labor Relations (SMLR), director of the Human Resource Management undergraduate programs, and director of the Strategic HR Leadership Council, will serve as interim director until June 30, 2013. 

Richard Masur Talks About The Act of Leading Unions

Each week students in SMLR’s Leadership in Work Organizations course take part in an in-depth examination of leadership—what it is, where it comes from, and how people develop and exercise it—with a focus on leadership within work organizations, including labor unions that represent workers in the workplace.

SMLR Introduces Problem-Solving Model To Association of Flight Attendants’ New Bargaining Committee

In August, Dean Susan J. Schurman teamed up again with Peter DiCicco, her co-facilitator during the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) merger, to facilitate a meeting of the Association of Flight Attendants’ (AFA) newly formed United Airlines bargaining committee.

Healthcare Talent Network’s Holds Job Fair, Offers Services For Skill Development

According to figures released last week by New Jersey’s Labor Department, the state’s unemployment rate is close to 10 percent. In an effort to help strengthen New Jersey’s workforce and provide job opportunities within the healthcare sector, The Healthcare Talent Network (HCTN) held a job fair on August 23 at Raritan Valley Community College.

MLER Program Welcomes Largest Incoming Class

From an overview of concentrations within labor studies to an introduction to library resources, new students within SMLR’s Master of Labor and Employment Relations Program received a full overview of the school’s program during orientation on September 5. Held in the Labor Education Center, the event was led by Professor Paula Voos, the director of academic programs, and Sattik Deb, director of student services.
