of Human Subjects in Research: Procedural Information
Work Involving Human Subjects Requires Prior Approval from the
Rutgers Institutional Review Board for the Protection of Human Subjects
in Research
If you are anticipating conducting research projects
involving the collection of information from or about human subjects
in research, you must complete a Request for Review and Clearance
of a Project Involving Human Subjects. Work may not begin until
the project is reviewed and approved by the Institutional Review
Board for the Protection of Human Subjects in Research (IRB). The
form and additional information can be found by clicking on http://orsp.rutgers.edu
and looking under the category of "Human Subject Research."
- The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs
can provide assistance and information to students in preparing
and submitting the form for approval.
- All students doing human subjects research
and their “advisors” must complete the online Human
Subjects Certification Program course. Please check the Office
of Research and Sponsored Programs site for more information.
- The Institutional Review Board must review
and approve human subjects research prior to beginning data collection
for master's thesis research, dissertation research, and any other
human subjects research. The approved protocol must be cited in
the final written project.
- Once they receive their Human Subjects Certification,
student researchers should submit a copy of it and a copy of approval
for each project to the Ph.D. Program Director for inclusion in
the program's files.
