Profile: Michael Kukenberger

Assistant Professor


Michael R. Kukenberger has recently joined SMLR as an assistant professor in the Department of Human Resource Management. His primary areas of research interest include team leadership, team effectiveness, team and individual learning, and multi-level theory building.
Kukenberger has worked with several Fortune 500 and Global 1000 companies, the U.S. Army and Navy, as well as other public and private organizations. His research has appeared in the Journal of Applied Psychology and Journal of Management. He is also an active member of the Academy of Management and the Society for Industrial/Organizational Psychology.
Kukenberger holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics from the University of Maine and a master's degree in business administration from the University of New Hampshire. Kukenberger received his Ph.D.  at the University of Connecticut's School of Business, where he focused on the antecedent conditions that, over time, lead to the development of shared leadership and the influence of collective leadership on team and organizational performance. He has won three teaching awards and has been recently inducted into the University of Connecticut's School of Business Hall of Fame.
